Rising Hope Counseling, LLC
Offering hope, healing, and change.
I was born and raised in Pierre, leaving briefly to go to school and living for a short time in Sioux Falls before returning to make a permanent home here. My family is from Pierre, my husband’s family is from Pierre; Pierre is home for me, and I am so excited to be able to use my skills and talents to make a difference here!
I graduated from York College in Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I have spent the majority of my adult career in community mental health services. I am currently in my final year of graduate school at Grand Canyon University and will earn my Master of Science in Professional Counseling.
I have a great deal of experience working with families and individuals who are experiencing crises. Rick Warren says that out of our deepest wounds come our greatest ministries, and I feel that is true of me and the love I have for counseling; as someone whose life hasn’t always gone the way I planned, I feel honored to have the opportunity to be alongside people as they navigate the joys and sorrows of their lives. I believe in hope. I believe that anyone can change. I believe that everyone is worthy of love and understanding. I believe that we all have the power to transform our "mess" into a masterpiece.
I am a member of the Central South Dakota Critical Incident Stress Management team, providing debriefing services to first-responders following incidents of unusual or high stress (like line-of-duty deaths, officer-involved shootings, fatal accidents, etc.). I am a proud member of the American Civil Liberties Union as well as the American Counseling Association and South Dakota Counseling Association.
In my free time, I like to hang out with my best friend (and, conveniently, my husband) and our five kiddos. He and I are on the worship team for our church and enjoy playing music every Sunday, as well as any other time we get the chance. I ride my motorcycle as often as I can in the summer and like to tinker on it in the garage in the winter (or more accurately, tell my husband what modifications I’d like to make, then watch him tinker on it – but I’m learning!). I enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, gardening, and anything crafty or creative. I am an amateur blacksmith and novice homesteader; one day, I’m going to live completely off the grid. Until that day, I wear the title of “hippie” proudly and appreciate any opportunity to learn about taking care of my family and the earth – physically, mentally, and spiritually!
